Most people want to find a work at home opportunity that does not charge a startup fee. Usually, it is because they are concerned about being scammed. Scammers will usually offer a deal that is too good to be true and then will likely ask for personal information and a bank account number. It is important that you avoid sites that ask for that kind of information.

It is very important to be aware of popular work at home scams online today. Here is a list of some great websites that do not require a startup fee.

I will try to keep this list updated for those who do not want to pay any upfront fees to start a home-based job. If you know someone that would be interested in this list, feel free to share.

#1 – Casting Words – read review – The company is best known for offering flat-fee transcription services in several languages.  Freelancers are hired and earn badge scores for the accuracy and deadline delivery of their work, which can help increase their job flow. You can expect to receive anywhere between 8.5 cents and a bit over one dollar per audio minute. Must be at least 18 years old to apply.

#2 – Transcribe Me – full review – This company is looking for candidates from all over the world that can accurately transcribe in the English language. The rate of pay starts at (U.S.) $35 per audio hour with rates as high as $55 per audio hour. A good quality headset and foot pedal and best for this job.

#3 – Aim-for-a-Tutor – Read review – To be considered for a job with this company you need to send a well-written resume to [email protected] You will need to include a paragraph that says why you are interested in the position, provide your available hours, give your Skype name and how much you hope to earn. Once hired, you will provide one-on-one tutoring online.

#4 – Toluna – Read review – This is one of the largest market research companies with opportunities for Product Testers and Survey Panelists.  This panel is open to everyone in the US, Canada, and Australia. #6 –American Consumer Opinion Panel –  This is a worldwide company that pays members for taking surveys online and voting on products as well as other services. It is completely free to register on the site.

#7 – Golden Voice English – Read review – This Company hires Online Tutors to work from home.  You can set up your own schedule depending on your availability and they do not charge any sign-up fees.

#9 – Speakwrite – They hire only from Canada and the USA to work as typists. They receive many applications and as a result, they will often put the application process on hold. Keep checking back from time-to-time.

#10  – Virtual Gal Friday – full review – The company provides virtual assistant teams to their clients. Candidates are hired as an employee. Responsibilities may include answering phone calls and taking messages, paralegal work, medical assistant work, and receptionist duties. Pay is an hourly rate ranging from about $5 to $20 per hour.

#14 – Crowd Surf – This company seeks to solve media challenges for the deaf, hard of hearing and second language viewers. Candidates for this job will provide transcription and captioning services. Some proofreading skills are required for this role. It is an independent contractor position and part-time. They charge $0.03 per word, up to 3000 words. This adds up to $90. Prior editing experience is preferred.

#22 – Accounting Department.com – You need to be a Certified Public Accountant to get a job here since they hire CPAs to do accounting work. There are no startup fees.

#23 – Smart Crowd – This company hires data entry agents to work from home at no cost. There is a waiting list if you would like to apply.  Pays via PayPal. (See other data entry jobs)

#24 Proofreading Services – read review – This company provides proofreading services for manuscripts, books, and various other documentation or digital platforms. Requires a test before applying. Candidates can select a part-time or full-time schedule Pay is considered competitive and higher than the average US pay.

#25 – SigTrack  –  They hire for data entry work processing registration forms and signatures. The work is seasonal so it should only be considered as an extra money earner. Signup with this organization is fast and there are no charges.

#26 – Verbal Planet – The opportunity on offer is that of Online Tutor and students to be tutored log in from all over the world. Payment is via PayPal and there is no membership or other fees involved.

#27 – Belay Solutions –  read review – This company works with businesses and freelancers, hired on as independent contractors, all over the US, offering services in virtual assisting. Pay is around $14 to $18 an hour. Freelancers will work alongside a manager and virtual team.

#30 – Appen – Read Review – If you work for this company, you will be an independent contractor. They hire for Search Engine Evaluators and there is an evaluation exam taken in two parts before you can begin working for them. The pay ranges from $13 to $15 per hour. People from the following countries are open to apply; USA, Denmark, Canada, Belgium, Norway, Brazil and more. They do not charge any fees.

#31 – Fancy Hands  –Read Review–  They offer flexible jobs so that you are able to choose the hours that you can work. You will need a landline and high-speed internet to do this job. The position is Virtual Assistant and you will be expected to carry out some clerical tasks.

#32 – Express Writers – They hire writers who can work either part-time or full-time. In order to write for them, you must pass their evaluation. To put in your application you will need to submit three well-done writing samples and also fill out an online application. There are no fees charged.

#33 – Goodcall– This is a telemarketing sales job. You would be working as an independent contractor making cold calls to potential clients. They pay $10 to $18 every hour. The pay is made through PayPal but they only payout once you get to a minimum of $100. They do not charge any fees and they also do not provide any training.

#35 – On Point Advocacy – They hire for writers, phone calls, political research and more. They do not charge any fees.

#36 – Call Center QA–Read more– Become a mystery shopper over your phone and work from home. You will earn about $5 to $10 for every call that is successful. All you need is an email address and a mobile phone to start. You can start by simply filling out the application form. They charge no startup fee.

#37 – Brighten Communications – They offer telemarketing opportunities for people interested in working from home. Your job is to get sales leads by cold calling clients. The pay to start is $12 per hour but with time, you can make as much as $18. You need to have a fax machine, a printer, a computer with anti-virus software, a phone line and high-speed internet in order to get started. They do not charge any fees to start.

Even though these online jobs are ideal for people with no prior experience, it is always great to have side earners for a little spare change.
